Red
Clay Forms Technology Partnership with the Latin American Community Center
The
Red Clay Consolidated School District (RCCSD) and Latin
American Community Center (LACC) have formed a technology partnership focused on
providing extended time and extended year instructional opportunities for
students residing in the community served by LACC, including our bilingual
students.
RCCSD
has purchased eight Dell Computers, one LaserJet printer, and appropriate
software, to be housed in a new technology lab at the LACC in Wilmington. LACC
is providing the physical space, networking, and Internet access, as well as the
personnel to run the lab. The lab will be manned by Steve
Villanueva, LACC Computer Instructor, and will be open weekdays at 4:30 p.m.
for the use of local bilingual students. Future goals include broadening the
program to Saturdays and summer months. Students will have an opportunity for
tutorial and enrichment activities in the lab. Close collaboration will occur
between the lab's staff and RCCSD staff.
What a winning combination/collaboration for both the school district and
community center, but most importantly for students who will have new
opportunities to enhance their academic skills as part of this initiative.
