Mercedes, your observations on the interactions with Lucia, the other older girls, and the usages of Spanish vs. English were very interesting. Your reflections centered around confidency. Did Lucia feel confident. I wonder how you would put this issue in the area of learning and development. Confidence is important to kids, as is acceptance. You may want to pursue that issue further when you work with Lucia again. It maybe that she feels inconfident or that she may feel she may not be accepted to speak only English. Also, the other older girls. How do you think that they may or may not encouraged her to learn to speak only English and not Spanish? Or in other words, what learning do you think took place. Overall, nice first draft of your field notes, Ed.
