there is a variiant to the game of Monopoly where all the property is passed out randomly (pick a card, any card), or auctioned for before the game starts. This allows for shorter games, and also allows for bartering, and bargining right off. The kids may be too confused by the new rule to implement it, but I think that it may help get past the point that you seem to be at.
