Jess wrote, "I remember playing hours of monopoly on nintendo with my best friend in middle school, because the computer did all the math (very nice). "

The purpose of the monopoly is to see consequences for decision making (e.g., buying or not buying). So, making calculations for the kids who have difficulties in counting is very big plus. However, it can be minus if the program is inflexible and does not allow to count for those kids who may want to count themselves. At some level of a game counting can be a part of stategizing.
