This is really more of a response to Ayal's fieldnote than to Eugene's reply. Anyway, it seems like your method of learning how to use the paintbrush program worked rather well. I'm not sure I would call what you did "testing". I'd think of it more as encouraging. I think, without encouragement, some kids might give up on that program because it's pretty difficult to figure out.The fact that you said that kids were excited about your interactions also make me think your process was a good thing. However, maybe there is some danger in getting the kids into a pattern where they do things to please you instead of simply for the sake of figuring it out. I don't know. Something to think about!
