In my experience at BU, it has been very rare to have a child play a game by the official rules. I think this is because most kids are not interested in reading and learning the rules; They want immediate gratification so they just jump right in. I have found this to be true for both the board and computer games. The computer games have the benefit/constraint of not allowing the player to make a move that is illegal. Sometimes this has been frustrating for a child because without knowledge of the proper way to play, there is little to do in the game.
