Valerie, excellent field notes. They were very descriptive, robust, and well thought out. I felt asif I could see you sitting witn Ana, Nela, and Maria. Coloring, laughing, and being together. I wasl quite impressed with your descriptions of Nela and the way both of you worked through language barriers. Do you think she will carry the type of learning experiences she had with you to other contexts? Also, your description of Sara and the use of only horizontal / diagnal connect four was very rich. In your reflections you talked about her menatal processes. How do you think she actually processed her interctions with you (i.e., do you think she used passed experiences she had with connect four, do you think she broke down what you said, do you think she just invented the rule of only using horizontals / diagnals, or all of these)? Lastly, it seems that like you, when you said that some of the experiences you have with the kids at BU remind you of when you used to baby sit. Many of your fellow classmates have also written that many of their interactions remind them of something in their personal pasts. The question I have, is how much do you think the kids own personal pasts and you and your class mates' personal pasts either facilitates or hinders any learning that may are may not occure for both you and the kids that you work with? Nice job, Ed.
