Valerie, very interesting. When I was reading your field notes the first thing that came to my mind was how both Norma and Mauela made their oun unique attempts to get your attention and how your attention played a role in the activities they were involved in. First off, it may be that although she wanted to complete the ocmponents of the Lion King herself and didn't ask you for help / use the computer's help, that fel that it was important to her that you know she was challenging herself and making progress. In this sense, you were providing whats refered to as "distal guidance". This is when you are involved with a child at a distance, you use no or minimal communication, and eye contac / facial expressions is usually the predominant forms of communication. As for Manuela, it seemed that you were engaging in more of what is refered to as "proximal guidance". In this context, there was communication, interactions, and you actually were involved in some of the activiites she was working on. Nice work, Ed.
