Christie, great field note! You mentioned that a boy is considered intelligent because he talks, takes over a game, and is directive; the opposite appears to be true for girls. You also mentioned that you have observed these stereotypical behaviors in Iban who you consider to be an intelligent boy. In addition, you characterized Ariana as quiet, not directing others how to play, not being assertive, which may be easily fit the label of "not being intelligent." Could you justify why do we need to classify kids as being "more" or "less intelligent"? What is the goal of doing it? It may be useful to reflect upon what the children's family/community consider as being "intelligent"?
