David I hope that you did not take offense by my comment.
Of course, I realized the point you were trying to make "drawing a parallel between sitting on a parent's lap when they are reading (either to themselves or to the child) as most children have experienced, and sitting on a parent's lap while they work at the computer as is beginning to happen now."
My incorporation of the issue of gender came in because you didn't say parents but "dad". The language people use is (as in word choice) an important reflection of things NOT said as well. I was not trying to make a judgement as to what you meant by that, I was simply making an observation and asking a question which I appreciate your thoughts on and reply to. I am not in search of "support of [my] male domination conspiracy theories". I think your word choice here is interesting as well.... conspirarcy theories....
I do appreciate your reply. An open exchange of ideas is respected, we don't always have to see things in the same way. That what makes these web discussions so rewarding.
