Psychology 101: Informal Learning and Technology

Goals, Expectations, & Responsibilities

General purpose of the class:
To learn how to see evidence of learning in ethnically diverse children in an informal setting based on computer technology and telecommunication. We are committed to making the class meaningful and to promoting a safe and supporting environment for the learning of all class members (including the Instructor and TAs). Many things are negotiable in the class except everyone's commitment to learning and meaningfulness.

Our expectations:
We generally expect from you and ourselves to make mistakes as well as to do our best to correct them. We specifically expect:

General Responsibilities of the class members:

• Student -- To learn how to manage your own learning and to help children at Barrios Unidos
• Instructor -- To provide guidance, to ensure the well-being of the students, and to coordinate smooth running of the class (and learn how to do all that)
• Site Coordinator -- To provide the well-being of the children and to coordinate smooth running of the Barrios Unidos site
• Teaching Assistant -- To provide help to the students in learning the course content
• Site Leader (a student) -- To facilitate debriefing and taking notes of issues at the site for whole class discussion
